Commemorating the Adwa Victory in the Digital Era

W/ro Tigest Hamid, Director General of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), stated that today it is fitting to honor the victory of Adwa even in the realm of digital national identity.

Marking the 130th anniversary of the historic Adwa Victory, under the theme “From Bitter History to Bright Future”, W/ro Tigest Hamid sent a congratulatory message recognizing the historical significance of the event.

According to the Director General, the victory of Adwa represents the unity and solidarity of Ethiopians and reflects the results of collective resistance. It is important to preserve and reinforce this historic heritage through digital platforms.

The Adwa Victory, she emphasized, symbolizes:

  • The unity of Ethiopians across ethnicity, religion, and gender

  • A collective struggle for honor and national integrity

  • The sacrifice of countless fathers and mothers, whose blood and bones contributed to the freedom we enjoy today

W/ro   Tigest Hamid noted that this victory demonstrates how overcoming differences for a common national purpose can be an enduring truth and lesson.

In the digital era, she highlighted that monitoring and safeguarding national data systems, cybersecurity infrastructures, and key information developments carry a value comparable to the Adwa Victory in terms of preserving national identity.

She concluded by urging all Ethiopians to reaffirm their digital national identity today, just as their ancestors upheld the spirit of history and patriotism, ensuring that the legacy of Adwa continues to inspire future generations.

Finally, the Director General expressed her best wishes, saying:
"Congratulations on the 130th anniversary of the Adwa Victory! May you celebrate it in peace!"
