Ethiopia to host UN Internet Governance Forum IGF 2022
Ethiopia will host UN Internet Governance Forum IGF 2022 at the UN-ECA Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from Nov 28, 2022to Dec 2, 2022.
From all over the world, 2,000 to 2,500 participants are expected to attend the conference and will discuss how to make the internet better, safer, accessible, and affordable.
The Secretary General of the UN launched the International Internet Governance Forum in 2006. The main objective of this conference is to bring together different participants and stakeholders on one platform to discuss policies related to Internet governance.
The forum holds annually where representatives from different countries and sectors discuss and share information and experience. The Internet Governance Forum is a platform where opportunities, challenges, and various ideas related to the internet are discussed, shared, and get into consciousness.
The forum was held in 2006 in Athens, Greece, for the first time. It has been held 16 times in different countries, and the 17th forum is held in Ethiopia from Nov 28, 2022to Dec 2, 2022.
The five main themes expected to discuss in this conference are connecting people who do not have access to the internet, safeguarding human rights and protecting people from violence; data management and protection; enhancing internet service; ensuring safety, security, and accountability; upcoming technologies and artificial intelligence.
