Information Network Security Administration (INSA) held a consultation forum with leaders and experts from various bureaus of the Oromia Regional State Government on the nature and implementation of cybersecurity standards, the benefits of cybersecurity readiness assessments, and overall cybersecurity awareness.
Opening the forum, Engineer Jima Tulu, Deputy Head of the Regional Science and Technology Authority, emphasized that ensuring cybersecurity is not the responsibility of a single institution alone but a shared responsibility of all stakeholders. He stressed the importance of working in close collaboration with INSA to strengthen cybersecurity efforts.
During the discussion, it was highlighted that the cyber environment is dynamic, complex, and unpredictable. As a result, implementing cybersecurity governance solutions to prevent cyberattacks is not merely a matter of choice but a critical issue of national survival and sovereignty.
The forum also underscored that senior leaders of institutions must proactively understand national, continental, and global cyber threats, as well as emerging technologies. Such awareness enables them to develop the strategic capacity needed to protect their institutions from cyberattacks.
It was further noted that the presentations delivered during the forum helped participants assess the vulnerabilities within their respective institutions and better understand the national significance and benefits of conducting Cybersecurity Readiness Assessments.
