Information Network Security Administration (INSA), in collaboration with the Afar Regional Science and Innovation Bureau, conducted an awareness-raising training for leaders and professionals in Semera city regarding the implementation of cybersecurity policies, standards, and central governance.
Opening the event, Dr. Engineer Seyid Mohamed, Head of the Afar Regional Science and Innovation Bureau, emphasized that the cybersecurity environment is dynamic, complex, and increasingly digital. He noted that preventing cyberattacks is not only an election-related issue but also a matter of national integrity and sovereignty.
He further explained that leaders and professionals must develop strategic understanding and resilience within their institutions to effectively anticipate and respond to potential cyber threats.
Following the Digital 2030 Strategy, the training gathered information to measure national cybersecurity readiness, enabling the identification of threats, vulnerabilities, and risks in the region and guiding the formulation of strategic solutions. This approach was highlighted as highly beneficial for proactive cybersecurity management.
In particular, the training emphasized that raising citizens’ awareness, skills, and responsible behavior is critical to reducing cyberattacks, making the development of cybersecurity consciousness an essential task.
During the closing session, participants reviewed major regional challenges and engaged in discussions. In addition to Semera, similar awareness-raising workshops were held in Hawassa, Dire Dawa, and Jigjiga, following the same format.
