Cybersecurity Club Officially Established at Jimma University

Information Network Security Administration (INSA), as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem and develop skilled human resources in the sector in collaboration with higher education institutions, has announced the establishment of a cybersecurity club at Jimma University.

The launch event, held at the Jimma University Institute of Technology, was attended by university leaders, INSA officials, and students.

In his opening remarks, the Institute’s Scientific Director, Engineer Ephrem Wakjira, noted that while there are various skill-development clubs within the university—such as architecture and software—the newly established cybersecurity club holds unique and significant importance in safeguarding the country’s digital security.

The University’s ICT Director, Dr. Mohammed Muntaz, on his part, delivered an extensive awareness session on cyber threats, based on the “5 Million Coders” initiative and the “Digital Ethiopia 2030” vision.

Dr. Mohammed emphasized that the club will play a crucial role in enabling students to transform their theoretical knowledge into practical skills.

INSA’s Director of Cyber Culture Development Directorate, Mr. Binyam Masresha, in his message, highlighted that by joining the cybersecurity club, students will not only protect themselves and their communities from cyber threats but also develop into competent professionals who will safeguard Ethiopia’s future cyberspace.

This cybersecurity club established at Jimma University is the fourth of its kind formed in partnership with INSA at higher education institutions, following similar clubs at Haramaya University, Arba Minch University, and Addis Ababa Science and Technology University.
