Information Network Security Administration (INSA), in collaboration with Arba Minch University, has established a Cyber Club within the university. Senior university officials, students, and representatives from INSA attended the launch ceremony.
During the event, Muluneh Lema, Scientific Director of the Institute of Technology at Arba Minch University, stated that higher education institutions play a crucial role in safeguarding national cybersecurity. He explained that the Cyber Club was established based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the university and INSA to collaborate on various cybersecurity issues. He also encouraged students to actively participate in the club to develop their skills.
On his part, Biniyam Masresha, Director of Cybersecurity Culture Development at INSA, noted that following the successful completion of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, Ethiopia has moved into a more advanced stage of digitalization. He further explained that in the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, cybersecurity will serve as a critical foundation to ensure that the country’s digital transformation continues securely and expands further.
He emphasized that protecting this national digitalization journey requires focusing on the human factor, which is often the primary source of vulnerability to cyberattacks. Many cyber incidents occur due to gaps in user awareness, negligence, or lack of capacity. Therefore, working closely with educational institutions—the future source of the country’s skilled workforce—is a key priority for the organization.
He also highlighted that the Cyber Club will not only help students protect their own cybersecurity but will also serve as a learning platform and talent development hub where students can strengthen their skills and contribute to the nation.
Students were encouraged to participate widely in the club and take advantage of the opportunities it provides.
