Information Network Security Administration (INSA) is celebrating the
month of October as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month for the sixth time
nationwide, under the theme “Cybersecurity: The Foundation of Digital
Ethiopia.”
This year’s program is being held in Bahir Dar City, in collaboration
with the Amhara Regional State Innovation and Technology Bureau, with the
presence of the Chief Administrator of the Amhara Region, Mr. Arega Kebede,
senior regional officials, and invited guests.
While officially opening the event, the day’s guest of honor, Mr. Arega
Kebede, emphasized in his message that building a competitive cyber environment
requires enhancing public awareness and strengthening institutional capacity.
Highlighting that technological development is a priority sector for the
country, Mr. Arega stated that raising community awareness and strengthening
institutional capacity are essential to build a resilient and competitive
cybersecurity ecosystem.
He added that the regional government is working on organizing
institutions, preparing legal frameworks, approving technology development
strategies, and encouraging institutions to modernize their operations.
During the program, INSA Director General Mrs. Tigist Hamid remarked that
as digital utilization grows, cybersecurity risks also increase.
She noted that the Amhara Region has been achieving several integrated
results through its digital transformation initiatives. However, she stressed
that public cybersecurity awareness is crucial for ensuring that this
transformation brings the desired outcomes.
The Director General further stated that the digitalization efforts
underway in the region play a significant role in accelerating its development.
To maintain their sustainability and success, she said, equal attention must be
given to cybersecurity as to digital implementation.
She explained that hosting the 6th National Cybersecurity Month in Bahir
Dar aims to strengthen the region's digital security, fulfill shared
responsibilities, and accelerate continued collaborative efforts.
