The Director General of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), H.E. Mrs. Tigist Hamid, has extended her warm New Year wishes to all citizens of Ethiopia, as well as to the institution's leadership and staff members.

The Director General expressed her hope that the New Year would be one of peace, good health, strengthened national unity, and remarkable achievements, during which the country's ongoing development initiatives and digital transformation efforts would advance to a higher level.

In her message, Mrs. Tigist extended her heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the institution's leadership and staff for their dedication and tireless efforts throughout the previous fiscal year. She commended them for safeguarding Ethiopia's cyberspace and ensuring the country's digital sovereignty, which contributed to the achievements and successes recorded during the year.

She further affirmed that, in the Ethiopian New Year 2019, the Administration would continue to strengthen ongoing national cybersecurity capacity-building initiatives by harnessing emerging technological opportunities and proactively preventing potential cyber threats.

Finally, recognizing that the holiday season is often accompanied by an increase in cyber-related crimes, Director General Mrs. Tigist Hamid urged the public and institutions to exercise heightened vigilance against cyber fraud and information theft targeting online marketplaces, social media platforms, and digital payment systems.

In particular, she advised the public to avoid opening unverified or suspicious links (phishing links) received through SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, and email.

She also emphasized the importance of never sharing bank Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), passwords, or other personal information with anyone. Furthermore, she encouraged the use of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on social media accounts and banking applications, and urged the public to use only legitimate payment channels to ensure their cybersecurity and protect their personal information.
