Ethiopia’s Global Cybersecurity Index Has Increased from 34% to 76.3%

Ms. Tigist Hamid, Director General of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), stated that the activities carried out under the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy have created a strong foundation for the country’s next phase under the Digital Ethiopia 2030 journey.
She made these remarks on the day Digital Ethiopia 2030 was officially launched.

Over the past few years, major initiatives implemented in the sector have prepared the country for the next stage. Among these are:

👉 Improved Global Standing:
Ethiopia’s Global Cybersecurity Index score has increased significantly—from 34% to 76.3%.

👉 Infrastructure Expansion:
The Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system has become operational, supporting electronic passports, Fayda (the National Digital ID), and the electronic receipt system.

👉 Human Capacity Development:
In addition to training professionals in higher education institutions, a large number of young people have been provided with cybersecurity training.

In the new strategy, cybersecurity has been identified as a fundamental pillar of national development. The following priority actions will be implemented with strong focus:

👉 Institutional Resilience:
Ensuring that infrastructures used in government services, education, agriculture, and health sectors are resilient to all forms of cyberattacks.

👉 Digital Authentication (Signature):
Expanding access to Public Key Infrastructure across all sectors and establishing a trusted digital signature system.

👉 Private Sector Engagement:
Creating an enabling environment that allows private institutions to participate broadly and meaningfully in cybersecurity initiatives.
